Today was a good illustration of something I was thinking about recently. I've thought about it before but have to remind myself once in a while.
There are times I feel like I'm not getting much done and am less efficient than I was some years ago. Then I take another look and realize that's not really true. Being single and alone is far different from having anyone around to help with basic tasks. Where someone with a partner or roommate can work on one task, the other can be working on something else. In example today, if I had some help I could have been working on part of the swamp cooler while the other person ran for parts. Instead, I had to run for parts and that meant it didn't get finished today.
Other times, I spend time cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, etc. On alternate days I let those things slide while I work on other tasks. Of course, some things have to be repeated fairly often. I'm trying to narrow those things down to smaller numbers, less frequent and involving less time as much as I can.
Basically, I still get a lot of things done but it's not always so evident.
While I didn't get the main swamp cooler running today, the portable swamp cooler needed some maintenance, so I worked on it a little while ago. Had to take it apart, descale the pads inside, clean out the water reservoir and make sure the pump is working. It didn't seem to be before I worked on it. Maybe because of mineral scale. It's pumping now. Also been cleaning fans to increase their efficiency and make them deliver cleaner air. For now, hoping the portable swamp cooler helps make the bedroom cooler while I'm sleeping and increases the indoor humidity.
