I have the first camera and the DVR set up.. kind of. Turned out the DVR doesn't have a coaxial connection and the old TV in the front room only has a coaxial connection. The DVR has VGA, HDMI and BNC connections. My modulator doesn't have any of those connections, either.
So, I put the box in the big living room and hooked it up to the newer TV, which has HDMI input. Just to get the system set up and tested. Formatted the hard drive. Everything works really well, happy to say! Only down side is that the camera controls don't let you invert the image and the dome camera is arranged for ceiling or wall mount. Can't turn the camera over. So, the camera will have to be on a wall or ceiling. However, the video quality is amazingly clear! I like it! Especially if the rest of the cameras are as clear as this one. The image isn't grainy at all.
It's a bummer I have to get a different monitor but I found a seller on CL who is selling a 17" LCD monitor for $25, so I'll go get that tomorrow. I already checked to see if they'll be around and they will.
Down side of where the camera and DVR are placed right now is that the system cannot be hooked up to the router, necessary for setting up saving video online plus email and SMS messaging. I can correct that once I get the monitor and it should take only a few minutes.
I can get that stuff done and still have time for most of the other stuff I want to do.
