Someone is getting ready to move into the house diagonally across the street from mine. In the past couple of weeks, they have been making huge improvements. New roof, new windows, new doors and an additional room on the back.
The house next to mine was remodeled shortly before we moved in. Five other homes have had some level of remodeling since we moved in.
That leaves four houses on the street which need some work. One of which is abandoned.
I've done some work but have a long way to go. One big improvement was the removal of the collapsing wall to the front and side. Planting multiple rose bushes, new grass and trees in front. I do have some other things which I need to do. Need to re-stucco and paint. That's the biggest thing but also the most expensive. I'll get to it eventually.
I also want to build a small pond and fountain in the front yard. However, not an immediate priority. Going to take a lot of concrete to accomplish that. And a lot of work. Priorities are mostly inside the house still. I keep inching closer.
Any way, even with my own house needing work, the more other homes get renovated, the more it increases property values, including my own.
One advantage most of the people in the neighborhood have which I don't is a much higher population. Most of the houses here have a lot more people living in them than my own. Several houses here have 8-10 people living in the house. The people next door have at least 4-5 adults living there. Directly across the street is more than that. I've counted as many as 11-12 vehicles in their yard on a consistent basis. A bit easier to do renovations with that many people living under one roof as opposed to one man living alone. No envy involved here, though. I'd go postal if I had to live with that many people. I'll happily take the slower improvements over that any day.
