Got moving on daughter's set of drawers again tonight. Finally. Have the lowest supports in place. Cut the back and front pieces for one side. I think I may need more wood of a certain size for the other side. Glad I didn't cut all the pieces yet. I was still 1/8" off on the center support measurement. It won't be noticeable when put together. Waited to put the rest of the supports in place, to make sure I don't make mistakes and have to do it all over again.
I did get tired and stopped a few minutes ago. Though I can get the first couple of drawers assembled and installed this weekend. Don't want to do too much woodwork while daughter is here because the sawdust may affect her asthma.
That was all after working an extra hour today, so did 9 1/2 hours.
Serious bummer. Every single tomato plant has died. I am suspecting the mulch has black walnut wood chips or something else toxic specifically to tomato plants. Only thing to do now is start some new seeds and buy some plants from a nursery and keep them in containers. Maybe just plant green beans in that area, let the grow over the supports. Move the mulch so I can grow tomatoes there next year.
Hmm. Just read an article on the subject and it largely confirms my suspicion of black walnut. It is also toxic to blueberries. The blueberry bushes started off strong, then began to suffer. I had placed mulch in the containers. Have to remove it. One thing which thrives around black walnut is grass, especially Kentucky Bluegrass. That explains why I still have grass growing through the mulch in spots.
Had to plant some new pumpkin seeds. Squash bugs killed off three vines by attacking the main stems. Not many squash bugs but they hit the worst parts of the vines. Oh, well. At least it happened early in the season.
Bit later-
Okay, I felt guilty for getting so far but not cutting the dadoes (slots) in the side panels for the drawers. So, went ahead and did that. Got them all done for all 6 drawers. So, now considerably closer to getting this finished.
Need to get to bed soon.
