Did my last transplanting planned for the season tonight. Had lots of flowers started in a seed tray which had to be transplanted out before they died from root crowding.
To some people, this may sound crazy but I also tried starting some apple and plum trees by cuttings. The plum tree had to be trimmed again, so did that and also cut a few small branches from both apple trees. Stuck all of them in the soil in a small area which stays fairly damp below the surface. Figured the worst that can happen is they don't grow but still worth a shot. Most sources say this should be done late fall, early winter or early spring. However, this is one of the coolest, shadiest areas of the yard.
Planted out the Pride of Madeira, some in front and some in back. Somewhat damp areas for these plants but what I understand is that this results in more flowering, brighter colors but a shorter life span for them. That's okay. They produce lots of seeds, so I can harvest seeds and plant new ones every few years. Especially if it means brighter flowers.
For the first time in weeks, decided to pick up an extra hour of work tomorrow morning. Have to get to bed soon.
