Light frost

I had thought (or hoped) that the temp had warmed enough that there was no more frost at night. Not yet. Dropped to 31 last night and still a few more nights forecast to drop to 29. Oh, well. Not moving things out to the solarium yet. It would work but the dogs managed to knock out one panel, so it remains somewhat open. Otherwise, the retained heat from the day would be enough to keep plants from freezing.

Oops. Never mind. Took a look outside and it turns out this last wind storm we had blew open a seam, so one section is open to the sky.

I need to spend the money and buy true greenhouse covering, which would be one solid piece to cover the whole thing. More expensive but tougher and has UV protectant mixed into the plastic, so it lasts up to four years of weather. (Dogs not included in that equation.) Have to set the last posts and take valid measurements because it's sold by the square foot. That's okay, this time I can take my time and install it when it's not an acute need. Also going to shore up the sides and install flaps which can open for summer. If it really does last 4 years, maybe by that time I can afford poly panels, which will last much longer. Or at least shade fabric, which lasts up to 12 years. Glass would last longest but the dangers and permit requirements are way too much to achieve. Especially with the dogs and the wind hazards here. As is, I estimate from assumed measurements that it will cost $72 plus shipping for the greenhouse covering. That will change with corrected measurements but should be about right. Once I by it, the problem will be keeping the dogs at bay while installing it.
