Some canning

Got some of the canning done tonight. Two quarts of green beans, three quarts of spiced apples and 8 pints of sliced carrots.

I had hoped to get all the canning done tonight but all the carrots and apples had to be peeled and green beans cleaned and cut, so all that took time. So, have to do the jalapenos and tomato sauce tomorrow night.

Interesting thing. I think a skunk got in my yard last night. I could smell it really strongly. Then today I did not see it but could smell it in the garden. Obviously the dogs spooked it and it sprayed the area. Not overpowering but quite noticeable. Kind of a shame I didn't see it. Not sure how it got in the yard. I knew something was eating some of the fallen apples but didn't know what. Now I do. I'm rather guessing it has taken up residence in the garden. I don't mind, long as it doesn't spray daughter or me. I think it would be kinda cool. Um, also as long as it doesn't eat all the produce growing.

Just looked it up. They prefer bugs, rodents and other things. They do eat berries. And toads. If we have a skunk, probably won't have toads. That's a trade off. I've been around skunks before. Long as you don't move too fast and scare them, with time they get used to you and won't spray you.

There's another reason to fortify the fence so the dogs can't get through. Until then, have to make sure the batteries in their collars remain at full charge. But it would be funny to see the reaction if they got skunked!

Today sucked for work. My phone crapped out and I had to work fax cases all day. Got nowhere near 70 cases. More like 50. They're sending another phone overnight mail. Hope it gets here early and that they sent it from CO.
