Finished installing the insulation today. Turned out I didn't need nearly as much as the multiple insulation calculators I used said I would. I actually got the kitchen, living room and my bedroom done. So, aside from patching, the insulation is done. I even returned 10 bags when I took the machine back!
I can't tell for absolutely certain how many inches I got installed but it appears to be all the way to the top of the rafter space. That cellulose insulation seriously expands when it's blown in!
Because of the deposits on the blower and truck, I had to make an extra trip for the rest of the supplies. However, I have 25 bags of concrete in front of the house (under a tarp) and in front of the car. Lots of lumber all over the place. Foam panels for cushioning the plastic sheeting for the solarium. A rebar mesh panel to keep the concrete ramp stable.
I haven't added up what I actually spent but since it took so much less insulation than expected, it seems to have come in well under the $600 budgeted. Even better in the long run, since I don't have to go back and get more for the bedroom. That would have required renting another truck. Once I add everything up, I may look into buying a concrete mixer. I have several concrete projects planned.
The clean up for this is going to take a long time. Dust and insulation blew everywhere in the rooms I was working in. The kitchen was such a mess I just ate at a restaurant tonight. The bedroom is such a mess that I will sleep on the sofa tonight. Until I wash all the dishes, counters and sheets.
No, did not feel like cleaning tonight. I picked up the truck around 7 this morning. Got back home around 9 and was blowing insulation until 4. Then made the extra trip (to Home Depot because wood is less expensive there).
Not to mention I bashed my right knee really good this morning. Stepped right into the corner of a square trailer hitch while swinging a 50 lb bag of concrete. Twice. Once while loading, once while unloading. Then spent the day climbing a stepladder and loading/unloading the insulation blower, which weights 150-200 lbs. Alone. By this evening I could barely walk. Getting better since I took a bath and took some Naproxen.
I'm exhausted. Getting to sleep.
