This past Sunday, too the daughter to the zoo. Since some of the tax refund came in, I blew part of that on going ahead and buying a year pass to the BioPark for she and I. It costs more in a lump sum but will save money in the long term. She loves the zoo and the aquarium, while I like the botanical gardens. So, we spend a lot of time and money each year going to those places. Enough so that the year pass makes sense, especially when you toss in the River of Lights during the holidays. This also sets up a time frame that the pass can be renewed next year (maybe a yearly routine) when taxes come in.
So, we now have annual passes for the BioPark and for Cliff's Amusement Park this year. I won't be able to afford Disney World this year but want to be sure we have things to do.
I also have plans to take her on a few road trips this summer. Hopefully to the Grand Canyon and possibly as far as the Norther California coast. Remains to be seen. Have to get the Camaro fixed or get some other transportation before that becomes a reality. Also get out and do some hiking in the mountains. Maybe Colorado. We both love nature, so these things make sense.
Any way, we had fun at the zoo this weekend. In some of the habitats, they were feeding the large birds. Which meant they threw some dead rats in for the birds to feed on for some of them. I was afraid she would be really distressed by this sight but she accepts it as part of nature. In the python enclosure, they fed the snake a whole rabbit (already dead). We got to see the snake displace its' jaw and start to swallow the rabbit. We didn't hang around for the whole thing. Again, she was okay with it and was fascinated. Glad we never saw that when she was younger, though.
One thing about it. She loves animals and I expect she may grow up to be a zoologist or veterinarian. She does have to be able to handle how these animals feed. Good thing is she seems well equipped for it. She can accept animal behavior as being their nature. She's a lot more critical of human behavior. Smart kid.
