Decent time

Woke at a decent time this morning. Just having some coffee and giving my body a chance to wake up. My body takes longer than my brain to fully wake.

It's a real shame the missions control paces don't open earlier, at least at 8. They keep hours like nobody has a job. That's one of the problems which holds NM back. Too hard for working people to get things done here because too many businesses keep hours which conflict with working hours. Either they cater to people who do not work or the locals have the attitude that it's okay to take off from work for every little thing. Just another reflection of the culture.. which is exactly what will continue to hold this state back.

Tesla has named NM as a possible location for a battery plant. However, that is along with several other states. It will be a really big plant. A few years ago, they already passed NM over for a vehicle manufacturing plant. That was before the issues with language in school and for businesses came up as such a large topic. In the Whole Foods case, it had to do with handling food. In this case, it has to do with building large vehicle batteries, where safety is a much bigger concern. Therefore, a common language for employees is a much, much stronger consideration.

If Tesla does their research, that issue, along with the work ethic, is certain to play into their decision. For the vehicle plant, they chose CA, which is a lot more expensive to do business in. (I note the states they are considering for the battery plant are all along the I-10 and I-40 corridors, which run directly to CA.) The local news is playing up the announcement but considering the number of batteries and the weight of shipping, I'm pretty sure geographic location is their first consideration. Then business considerations will be next. If they build here, it will probably have more to do with availability of natural resources than much else.
