Forgot to take melatonin early enough. Now I have insomnia. If I take it too late, I'm no good the next morning.
So, took some Valerian Root and Benadryl, waiting for that to take effect.
In the meantime, been thinking about different things I have done in the last few years which I had never done or known before I moved in here.
Before moving in here, had never built a picnic table. The one I built shortly after moving in is still standing and quite strong. I do admit the benches are crap, though. Need to make new ones.
Had never built shelves from scratch. Now have several shelves I built. Some good, some need revision.
Knew almost nothing about solar design. Through study, trial and error, have learned huge amounts about that and heat transfer.
Had what I called a "black thumb" when I moved in. Just had to walk past plants and they would die. Now getting better each year at gardening.
Before moving in, could do basic wiring like replacing a switch. Now have learned what it takes to wire a house. (Not truly advanced but beyond average.)
Until I had moved in here, had never cut down a full sized tree. Now have cut down several and some in very tight drop zones. With no damage in the process.
Only since moving in here have I learned to set concrete and apply stucco.
Going to need many of those skills this coming year for the plans I have in mind. Finishing the house wiring. Few more outside outlets. Solar heating and cooling projects. Water features for front and back yards. Finishing daughter's room. More shelving. Finish the pass-through between kitchen and living room. Cabinets and such.
I am reducing the garden a bit this year. At least making it less crowded and easier to maintain. Not going to have the time for it in years past, so simplifying is a must. Though I am going to strengthen the fencing to keep the dogs out. It will also make the trellises more permanent and attractive.
Going to be putting some of those cinder blocks to use this year for different projects.
Oh, yeah. Had never laid tile until this year. Not claiming being very professional at it but not horrible. Hoping to get better at that.
I still think this year is looking really positive.
Though right now, the stuff I took is kicking in and bed is looking positive.
