Solar gain

So, now I'm seeing some measurable gains from the solarium. Ambient temperature (according to Accuweather) was 64 degrees. Inside the solarium, the maximum temperature I recorded today was 107!

Now, that was at only 6' elevation in the center of the solarium. Not a question that the temperature is higher at the apex of the solarium. So, that means that the back wall of the house gets much warmer. May take a few days before the heat really seeps into the soil. At that point, I'll see more gains.

That does not yet translate into big gains for inside the house. Before I could do anything to transfer that heat into the house, I had to measure it. Plus I had to take measures to kills off the insects drawn to the dog waste. Also still working on full control of the dog odor. Sure don't want that in the house.

The tomato plants and one of the cucumber vines are thriving in the solarium. The tomato plants had stopped flowering and were fading out for the year. The last three nights the ambient temperature was below freezing. Last night my immediate area was in the 20's. However, when I checked the tomato plants this evening, I saw new flowers forming! Nice!! There are still several green tomatoes gaining size. Now I hope to see more soon!

That would be funny as hell if I have more tomatoes this winter than I had all summer. Wonder if I'll be canning in the winter?

Got up on the roof this evening and got two small gaps closed up. One was maybe 8 sq inches, the other was smaller. That will probably make a small difference in heat gain but more difference in preventing heat loss at night.

Today was a nightmare for work. The network was completely unstable. For quite some time this morning, all calls were diverted and everyone was working fax cases. The rest of the day the cases came up very slowly and frustrated everyone involved.

There is supposed to be a change coming which drastically increases business for the company next month. My fear is that there is not enough planning and action in place for that change. Right this minute is the tipping point for this company. If they plan and act wisely, this company will be one of the biggest successes in US history. If not, they will fall and be remembered as one of the worst preventable failures to ever occur in the world. As it stands, there is no valid excuse at this point in time for a technology based company to have as many network problems as we have on a near daily basis. I don't know if the problem is nepotism, cronyism or simply investing far too little of the profits back into infrastructure or a combination of all the above. Whatever the problem, it needs to be addressed soon. Before we have complete system crashes every single day. If that happens, the company will lose employees and contracts. Once either one is lost, they won't be coming back.
