Sealed up

So, I got the solarium sealed up. Except for one spot on the roof which needs a small plastic sheeting patch stapled in place around some pipes and cables.

I fixed the door and got it mounted. Attached two good size tarps to the outside north wall and anchored them well with screws.

Got some solvent to thin out the contact cement. It was partially dried out and too thick to apply. Added mineral spirits and letting it sit overnight. Use that to apply the Mylar tomorrow. I may use some of that to anchor the tarps around the edges, also.

I fixed the dog door so they can get through. Not that the door itself needed repair. The dogs had dug dirt around the door so it wouldn't swing. Then I blocked it open with a cinder block. Hopefully they'll get a clue and find their way inside. I closed the main door, so they have to use the dog door. If they get the idea that I don't want them to go inside, that's probably the first thing they'll do. Then if they're too dumb to use the door after I stop using the cinder block, guess I'll replace it with a piece of translucent plastic.

Got a new thermometer which records the highest and lowest temperatures every 24 hours. The dogs managed to destroy the old one this past summer. That will give me a good idea of heat gain and retention.

Placed the radiant heater in the solarium, pointed at the plants. Plus put one of the Mylar blankets behind the plants to capture and reflect the heat back on them.

The refund check from the mortgage escrow finally got here! That means I will have as much as $850 laid up for the dentures next week. So I'll only have to lay out about $350 out of pocket. Long as I don't go crazy spending. Not seeing that happening right now. Hmm. Maybe I should scout the dollar stores for denture cleaner in advance. Have to wait and get instructions on how to handle the temporary dentures but know I'll need the cleaner eventually. I know I don't need any adhesive to begin with. That would not be a good idea until my gums heal. Just trying to plan ahead. Need to get extra Naproxen in advance.

I may spend a little money to get some flexible ducting for the solar heating for the solarium.
