Freeze warning

Freeze warning for tonight. Only for a few hours, between 3 and 7 AM. I tried building the door for the solarium but failed. One of the upright posts is crooked, which caused problems. Plus I gashed my thumb pretty good.

I'll have to alter the door later and mount it.

What I did do is attach some Mylar to the inside of the north wall and place a radiant heater in the solarium for the dogs for now. The Mylar is reflective and reflects the heat back into the solarium.

At some point, I'm going to use contact cement to attache the Mylar to the walls. That would help quite a bit, reflecting sunlight and heat back into the solarium during the day, increasing the temperature more. At night, it should still reflect back heat (because heat is radiant energy). Only works on the inside, though. If I attach tarps to the outside, that will help retain heat between the layers.

Of course, the first thing the younger dog did as soon as he thought I wasn't looking was to try and eat the Mylar. Couldn't have been hungry. They had just eaten no more than a half hour earlier. Think it was a new toy? They leave their toys on the ground and poop on them. They didn't walk into the solarium and find a nice warm spot before trying to destroy it.

I just went outside to check on them. It's below 50 degrees. It's fairly warm in the solarium. Both dogs are still outside. (But they fight and whine to get inside the solarium to defecate still, unless I block them out.)

Dumb..as..rocks.

I guess my best bet is to get the electrical outlet installed as soon as possible, if only temporarily. That will give me someplace better to plug in tools and appliances while I'm working. Tonight I was using two outdoor extension cords.

Not sure how much I'll get done tomorrow, since it's election day. All depends on how long it takes to vote. Doesn't usually take long on this side of town. Probably because 1/3 of the population is illegal, 1/3 have criminal histories and the other 1/3 is illiterate or something like that.
