Palestine

Not religion, common sense-
One of the predictions i wrote in 2001 was that the US would make itself a target for the Islamic world if we continued to give such vastly unbalanced support to Israel over Palestine.
Gaza has been described as "the largest prison in the world" for many years. The residents are not allowed to leave and enter without Israeli approval which is very rarely given. There has been conflict regarding illegal (by UN standards based on past treaties and promises from Israel) Israeli settlements. There have been constant restrictions on trade which keep the entire country in poverty for decades.
Basically the only access to drinkable water is by purchased bottled water, imported from outside. For the whole country. Because Israel will not allow them to build a sanitary water treatment facility.
Medication and medical supplies are in constant short supply and have remained so for many years. The same holds true for food.
Place yourself in this situation. Watch your child, your spouse, family members go hungry, lack medical care, drinking dirty water. For decades. How angry would you become? What steps would you take if you had the chance?
Something to remember is that Gaza has the political backing of Russia, China, Iran and multiple other Middle East countries. One of the biggest things that has held their military backing has been monetary, mostly oil trade. Now the US has decreased their oil dependence on the Middle East, while China has been increasing oil purchasing and monetary strength. Russia produces their own oil. How long until their political support transforms into military support? The combination of all those countries with technology, finance and military numbers is formidable if they join together.
I do not propose we switch sides and turn against Israel. However, it would be very wise if we offer more balanced political and social support to both sides in this conflict. Before it comes to our own doorstep. By then it will definitely be too late.
