Paranoia

I keep looking/listening to other people and realizing just how paranoid people really are. And I don't get it.

If a person's life is perfect, what are they afraid of?

Just because your life is perfect today does not mean it will stay that way. We all get older. Natural and man-made disasters and events happen.

So many people hit a point in their lives where they don't want anything to change. Yet change had to happen for them to reach that point. The right pieces had to fall into place. They had to learn the right subjects. They had to be in the right place at the right time, under the right circumstances.

One of the greatest abilities humans have is the ability to adapt to change. Changing weather, changing social structures, changing living conditions, changing politics, changing financial conditions.

History proves clearly that groups of people who fail to adapt to change are doomed to extinction for that group. The world continues to change around them. Eventually that group gets smaller and smaller until they no longer exist.

One of our abilities to change comes from our ability to learn. Any living organism which fails or refuses to learn becomes static. A living organism must continually learn, grow and adapt. If it remains static, it begins to decay and will die.

I also find paranoia to be a drug in and of itself. We all have certain fears but that does not equate to paranoia. With paranoia, a person actually gets a mental rush from their fear, whether they are aware of it or not. Like any other addiction, the rush from one fear declines over time. So they must develop a different fear. Like a drug addict going up on their dose or trying a new drug. They are always trying to capture the initial rush. Yet they will only manage to do this when they are so afraid of everything in existence that they are too afraid to function and are trapped within their own mind. In which case, they will not live long because they will be too afriad to eat, drink or breathe.
