Kitten

Been placing a medium animal trap in the back yard to catch cats before moving the chickens outside.

This morning, we caught a black kitten. It was scared at first but we let it roam the house. Then it disappeared. I found there was a small hole in the floor behind the water heater which I didn't know about. Covered it up and placed the trap back outside.

This evening, daughter went in the office and heard faint meowing. Found the kitten in the closet, which has no door. Coaxed it out but it was still scared. I came to help and the kitten jumped up into the linen closet. I approached it calmly, let it smell me and then it let me pet it.

Since then, it has been getting used to us and has adopted us. Daughter is unbelievably excited. Has not stopped talking all evening. At all. For one second. Seriously. My ears hurt. We named the kitten Midnight.

It occurred to me that this is the third time in my life that I have been going through major changes and a black cat entered my life in some way. Very odd. Maybe it runs back to the witches in the family. In any case, it has historically signaled some form of positive change (though I did not recognize it at the time in one case until later).

How fast do those changes occur? Pretty fast. That does not mean those changes are not without conscious and concerted effort. But I'm not afraid of effort.

Daughter has spent much of the weekend in water. Friday we went to Cliff's. She spent much time at the Water Monkies area. Sat she spent no small amount of time in the pool in the back yard. Today we went swimming. Tomorrow, the ex has reservations for the indoor water park at a local hotel for the two of them. Think the kid is going to grow gills and fins.
