Seems to be a day for belt problems.
Tightened up the belt on the van but it still squealed very slightly. Enough to annoy me. Got some belt dressing and applied that. Problem solved. The belt does not show signs of advanced wear and should last quite a while. The tensioner would not adjust any further. I'll still get a spare before I hit the road just in case.
After tightening the belt (before getting the belt dressing) I walked inside, tools still in hand. Notice the swamp cooler is not blowing any air. However I could hear the motor running. Got on the roof and checked. The belt broke.
I could have just left it but did not want to be rude to the new owners. Besides, seems like bad karma. The first day or two we moved into the house the swamp cooler was not working. It got hot as hell in here. Though that was late May and it would not get that hot now. Still..
Went to Home Depot because Walmart already removed swamp cooler supplies from stock. That trip served to remind me how much I hate Abq drivers and police. There was an accident in the road on Coors. Fire truck blocking 2 of 3 lanes. How many police directing traffic? None, of course. Flares? Nope. These people don't even try.
I could tell the accident had been there for a while. Got further down the road and there was another accident. Or one of the vehicles from the first one tried to drive away but was too badly damaged. That car was on the side of the road. One police car blocking one lane.
Got to Home Depot, got the belt. Coming back they still had not cleared part of the wreck. So traffic was still screwed up in both directions.
Got home and it was raining but getting dark. Climbed on the roof in the rain. Not so easy, since I still had to climb on the van using the ladder and then pull the ladder up to get on the roof. Installed the belt and climbed back down the same way. At least the swamp cooler is working well now.
Took a bath and cleaned out the tub. Don't have to do that tomorrow.
Cleaned the toilet.
Did dishes.
Made dinner, so will have to clean the utensils from that before bed.
Polished the part of the floor I sanded.
Wiped out the inside of the stove.
Cleared the freezer and wiped it out.
So, very little left for tomorrow.
