Activities

Today I have several things scheduled. The cloning class not too long from now. Then an appointment to fix the iPad this evening. Couldn't get an appointment earlier in the day. That sucks, since I'm going to be on that side of town.

Oh, well. Probably best. I will have live plants in the car. If I left them in the car too long they would die.

I was going to take the bike but since I don't know the size of the plants, better to take the car.

Last night I ordered some supplies to start trying hydroponics. There is some logic to hydroponics growing plants effectively. Nutrients go straight to the roots and there's no soil for white flies to lay their eggs in. I do need to look around and see if I can find the air pump I once had for the fish tank. If I can't find it, have to get a new one. Nutrient balance is the big thing. I know there's no need to raise the pH here, so I can use sulfuric acid to make the liquid more acidic. Not fond of rock wool because of the risks to myself and the environment, so I ordered coconut coir as a medium.

Instead of some highly expensive starter kit, I'm just going to use a large plastic storage container, cut holes in the lid for the plants. Between the storage bin, air pump, hydroponic pots and fertilizer, I'm spending less than $30 on supplies. (Some I already have, so even less immediate outlay.) While the cheapest hydroponic starter kits I've seen cost around $90 and I think those did not include fertilizer or pH adjustment supplies. I have a pH meter, so don't have to worry about that. I may invest more in lighting fixtures before winter, though.

I'll write more later.

2:30 PM- Got back from the cloning class, which was a bit longer than I expected. I did learn a few things. Like I have been using too much light and still not enough humidity. The instructor said if you can attain 100 percent humidity the plants would love it. (But that would cause problems with fungi.) The people in the class were all very nice. The instructor did wander off into how water has memory and you should compliment your plants to make them grow better. He kind of lost me when he went into that stuff. We all got to bring home 7 clones each. Different varieties.

One thing is true, though. The more time I spend around people, the more I hate being around people.

9:30 PM- Good news! Got the tablet fixed and it didn't cost anything! The woman helping me restarted it by pressing two buttons at once for several seconds. Took a minute but it restarted and the display worked fine. Would have been nice if the guy the other day had just told me to try that.

The new dispensary has several high-CBD strains. Trying it first time tonight. Doing a good job stimulating my appetite. In my case, that also means killing pain.

Going to try and get enough done tomorrow to make up for not doing much today.
